Most kids get antibiotics for pink eye, study shows. Experts say they're usually not needed

Despite guidelines discouraging their use, research shows that over two-thirds of U.S. children with pink eye are prescribed antibiotics unnecessarily. Antibiotics are ineffective against viral causes and most bacterial infections of pink eye. Supportive measures like wet towels and artificial tears are often sufficient for relief.
