GM cuts 1,000 jobs globally, mostly salaried but some hourly, in move to gain efficiency

General Motors has laid off around 1,000 employees as part of a new employee ranking system and to enhance operational efficiency. The company will also cease using its Yuma Desert Proving Grounds and close departments at its Milford Proving Grounds.
