Australian businesses selling essential goods and services to be forced to accept cash payments

The Treasury confirms cheques will remain in circulation until 2029 but will no longer be accepted as legal tender after that. A government mandate starting from 2026 requires certain businesses to accept cash for essential purchases, ensuring those who rely on cash are not left behind.
