Hey Sir, how do you say “Art of the Deal” in Hindi?
Donnie Deels hopped on Truth Social yesterday and announced he and India’s PM Narendra Modi just “got it on” (in a good way). We have tariffs down, big numbers being thrown around, energy is suddenly rerouted… and everybody is smiling in different time zones. Bigly.

In short, according to #47, reciprocal U.S. tariffs on India are dropping from 25% to 18%, effective immediately. India, meanwhile, is supposedly taking its tariffs on U.S. goods to zero with a Captial Z. As in nothing… and one hell of a headline. But wait, there’s more! Additionally, rump says Modi committed to buying over $500 billion worth of American stuff… think energy, tech, ag, coal, and the whole Costco aisle. Oh, and they’re going to top buying Russian oil and start sourcing more from the U.S. and Venezuela instead. (Thanks, Maduro).

Naturally, Modi followed up on X, confirmed the tariff cut, thanked Trump on behalf of 1.4 billion people, and called it a big win for “Made in India.” Of course, there’s technically no deal text yet. Meaning, custom brokers are already doing what they always do with Trump trade news: waiting for the fine print before touching anything sharp. But still, the context matters here.
For instance, trade talks between the two countries froze last year after India kept buying Russian oil. Trump responded with a 25% tariff stack that made everything louder and more expensive. Since then, India quietly wrapped up a massive trade deal with the EU… which, not coincidentally, seems to have accelerated this phone call.

Now we have lower tariffs on India that eases inflation pressure at the margins, helps U.S. exporters, and gives Trump another “I fixed it” notch on the belt. For India, getting preferential access to the U.S. while keeping one foot in every global camp is basically the whole strategy. Now, will $500B actually change hands here? Maybe. Maybe not. That number smells a bit aspirational. But the signal is still loud. And that signal screams that Donnie didn’t break anything and energy flows are being weaponized in real time. Love to see it.
America stays undefeated. Until next time, friends…
