Sequoia Joins GIC, Coatue in New Anthropic Funding Round Targeting $350B Valuation

Anthropic is lining up another massive capital raise as the AI arms race keeps turning into a full-blown spending contest… and this time, Sequoia Capital is reportedly stepping into the ring.

According to a Financial Times report, venture capital heavyweight Sequoia is joining Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC and U.S. investment firm Coatue Management in a new funding round for Anthropic, the company behind the Claude chatbot. The round is expected to raise at least $25 billion and would value Anthropic at roughly $350 billion, based on people familiar with the discussions cited in the report. The FT said GIC and Coatue are each expected to invest $1.5 billion as part of the financing.

The fundraising talks are still ongoing and the final size of the round could shift, the report added. A deal could also be finalized in the coming weeks. Anthropic, Sequoia, GIC, and Coatue did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The latest funding push comes as AI demand keeps accelerating, especially from enterprise customers, driving huge capital flows into the sector even as skeptics warn valuations may be getting overheated.Anthropic has already been one of the biggest beneficiaries of that wave. The company last raised $13 billion in a Series F round that valued it at $183 billion, according to disclosures made in September.

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees and has positioned Claude as a major rival in the fast-growing chatbot and enterprise AI market. The company has also attracted deep-pocketed strategic backers. Last year, Anthropic secured commitments totaling up to $15 billion from Microsoft and Nvidia, adding more firepower to its expansion plans. Sequoia’s reported involvement is notable given the firm’s long track record as an early investor in major tech winners, including Google, Apple, Cisco, and YouTube.

If completed at the reported terms, the funding round would mark another dramatic step up in AI startup valuations, and another sign that investors still believe the infrastructure buildout and adoption curve are far from slowing down.
