Ross W. Ulbricht, founder of Silk Road, an online marketplace for illegal drugs, was sentenced to life in prison by Judge Katherine B. Forrest for running a global drug-trafficking enterprise. Operating under the pseudonym Dread Pirate Roberts, Ulbricht facilitated criminal transactions using Bitcoin.
