R.I.P. Wallets: Amazon's New AI Threatens to Topple Household Budgets...

RIP to my wallet friends.

As if my wife already spent enough money on Amazon this month, she’s now going to have an AI shopping assistant named “Rufus” help her spend even more dolla bills. Thanks Bezos…

For those who haven’t heard, Amazon has officially launched Rufus (it’s proprietary AI shopping assistant) to all of its US Customers today.

But what’s even worse for me, (but genius for Amazon), is that they’re rolling out just before Prime Day next Tuesday. Greaaaat.

Now with that said, what’s the big deal with Rufus? Well despite popping Amazon’s stock .80% on the news…

Everyone will now have a shopping guru in their pocket, one that knows Amazon’s catalog and their shopping habits better than they themselves know them.

Plus, combined with the ability to track orders, follow up on orders, and issue reorder reminders, Amazon is literally giving all its frivolous shoppers that extra push to add to cart. Obviously, this is a perfect move by Amazon, considering that Prime Day sales were already expected to hit a staggering $12.4 billion.

But now, with Rufus being rolled out, you might as well add an extra few billion to that number as their new AI will be working overtime - nudging us all to buy those extra pairs of sneakers or cooking pots we didn’t know we needed.

However, in addition to Rufus making it rain for Amazon on Prime Day, the real question is how this AI is going to fuel Amazon’s already tremendous growth even more. Sure, Rufus will help Amazon sell more stuff, obviously, but it’s also set to transform the entire shopping experience as a whole.

By leveraging AI, and the memory capabilities of it, Amazon is supercharging the ease for customers to find exactly what they need, when they need it, alot faster. That’s a win for both the shopper (loss for me) and Amazon’s bottom line.

Oh and sorry for all you product review people out there, but Amazon dgaf about you.

You see, Rufus is trained on a treasure trove of data, from product listings and reviews, community Q&A’s, and plainly the whole internet for that matter. Meaning, it can answer a wide range of questions right at the tip of your fingers. Think, “Which VR headset is the best for watching [Insert Favorite Adult Website Here]”.

This AI is like having my wife’s best friend, Kathy (who's already a shopping addict), right on the app with you.

But of course, there’s something to be said about the backlash that Amazon could face because of this innovation. Most are wondering if Rufus is just another way for Amazon to push its own products.

Especially considering Amazon has already had its fair share of controversy with product placements and advertising. But for now, Rufus seems to be playing nice, as they’re only using it as an unbiased tool to build customer trust. Whether that will remain the case in the future is anyone’s guess.

So whether you’re excited to have a new AI tool to help you shop or dreading the hit to your bank account, one thing’s for sure: Amazon has just sealed its place within the AI industry.

And with Prime Day just around the corner, we’re all about to see just how powerful this little AI assistant can be for sales and for its stock price. Y’all go on and pray for me now ya hear!
