Stop me if you’ve heard this before: “Self-driving is definitely the future…” LOL
Lucid, the EV startup that sells fewer cars than your local Honda dealer, is now dropping what they “think” is the hottest mixtape of 2025… promising full-self driving. How? With their “mind-off” self driving technology that takes Jesus take the wheel to a whole new level.

In short, interim CEO Marc Winterhoff dropped the news at Nvidia’s GTC event, bragging about a partnership with Nvidia’s DRIVE AV platform. Same one everyone else uses when they want to sprinkle AI fairy dust on a balance sheet. The car will allegedly hit Level 4 autonomy, meaning it can drive itself under “normal conditions.” Translation: This has “trust me bro” energy written all over it.

The only catch is… is that it’s coming “definitely in the coming years.” Not 2026. Not 2027. Just… whenever Lucid makes the technology actually work. Aaaand just like that, the hype balloon deflates. For more context, Lucid says the system will debut on its upcoming midsize model… the one that currently exists as a JPEG… before expanding to the Gravity SUV. Naturally, because investors are inherently feral, shares popped 5% on the news (with an additional 3.70% as of the time of this writing).
Meanwhile, the company still hasn’t nailed Level 2 automation… a.k.a. The basic stuff Tesla, GM, and Ford already sell to people who fall asleep on the interstate. But sure, let’s just skip to Level 4. Sounds legit. What’s funny though, is that this whole announcement reads like Lucid saw Nvidia’s keynote and said, “yeah, us too.” The car will use a cocktail of lidar, radar, and cameras to “see its environment”... which is pretty much what every 2018 Volvo does. Which means… which means… you don’t have to be a genius to see the real motive behind the promise: Lucid’s bleeding cash and chasing headlines. EV demand’s cooling, tax credits are fading, and investors are tired of quarterly “we swear production is ramping” updates. So they did what every struggling tech company does… whispered AI and watched the stock twitch.

Again, Lucid calls it “mind-off” driving, which honestly describes the entire shareholder base at this point. And yet, the company’s been flirting with reality for years. Missed targets, executive turnover, you name it… and now it’s promising something Elon Musk has yet to fully master himself. So yeah, in theory, you’ll be able to “work from car” in a Lucid someday. But let’s be adults here… by that time, technology will have already made its stamp elsewhere. For now though, keep your eyes on Lucid and of course, place your bets accordingly. Until next time, friends…
