Despite back spasms, Francisco Alvarez was a pinch hitter in the Mets' game against the Brewers. Manager Carlos Mendoza defended his catchers against stolen bases, naming David Peterson as the starting pitcher for the next game. Jeff McNeil is expected to return soon after a wrist injury.
