F*ck income taxes, all my homies hate income taxes…
Welp, President Donny Tariffhands flippantly suggested once again that he might “cut out income tax completely” over the next couple years.

According to #47, the revenue from those bad boys is going to be “so large” the U.S. could basically erase the entire IRS income tax line with a single keystroke. And trust me, I’d love nothing more than to live in a world where my CPA doesn’t call me with that ominous, “You might want to sit down…” opener.
But then the math walks in like, “Hey buddy, you forgot about me.” The U.S. pulled in about $195 billion in tariff revenue in 2025 and is on pace for a little over $400 billion in 2026. Meanwhile, income taxes alone brought in $2.66 trillion. That’s before you even tack on another $450 billion in corporate taxes. Unless tariffs suddenly go full Dragon Ball Z and power up 10x, the numbers don’t make a lick of sense (maybe he’s got Cathie Wood doing the calculations).

But that hasn’t slowed down Trump, who says the “money we’re taking in is going to be so large” that income taxes could be “almost completely” wiped out. Which is an incredible thing to say given that the Supreme Court is literally deciding right now whether these tariffs are even legal in the first place. It’s like promising to build your dream mansion while standing on land the city might bulldoze tomorrow morning.
And even if SCOTUS throws up its hands and says, “Sure, whatever,” Trump can’t just executive-order the IRS into retirement. Congress has to play ball. Unfortunately for the fantasy of tax-free paychecks, lawmakers have already made it extremely clear they’d prefer to use any tariff money to whittle down the deficit rather than bankroll a nationwide moment where everyone suddenly finds an extra couple grand lying in their bank account.

Especially because Trump is using the same theoretical pot of money to also talk about farm bailouts, new spending, and debt reduction. It’s political budgeting by wishful thinking.
Still, the politics of it are undeniably entertaining. Democrats just won several state and local races by focusing on affordability, and Trump responded by basically saying, “Hold my Diet Coke… I’ll just delete income tax.” Sensible policy? Hard to say. Peak spectacle? Without question.

But if I were you, I wouldn’t start planning a tax-free future just yet… though let’s be honest, even a 10% cut would have people throwing confetti in the streets. And the fact he keeps circling back to this idea makes you wonder if he genuinely thinks he can muscle something through.
