Airbnb Declares War on Halloween Parties with “Anti-Fun Technology” Per Brian Chesky…

Some men just want to watch the world burn…

Brian Chesky is back on his usual case of f*ckery as he’s announced his yearly Halloween crackdown with Airbnb… the one where they pretend renting a house for the weekend is a national security threat. The company’s rolling out “anti-party technology,” which sounds impressive until you realize it’s just a predictive-behavior filter for people who like fun.

In short, if you’re booking a one-night stay, close to home, near October 31st… congratulations, you’re flagged like you just tried to board a flight with a gas can. Last year, 38,000 Americans got blocked. Six thousand Canadians too, for good measure. The official word is that this is about “protecting hosts and communities.” Unofficially, it’s about Brian trying to convince investors that Airbnb is a respectable platform, not the world’s biggest decentralized rager with a cleaning fee.

For more context, the party ban started after a 2019 shooting made headlines. Fair. But now it’s metastasized into a full-time posture. Noise sensors. Automated flags. Human review teams watching for signs of life. The company says global party reports are down 50% since 2020. Cool. So are reasons to use Airbnb. Translation: What used to be chaos… random strangers, red Solo cups, and an inflatable hot tub filled with regret… is now a sanitized simulation of hospitality. Every new “safety initiative” pushes the brand further from the thing that made it matter: human mess.

But, but, but… don’t you worry degenerates, the black market for fun still exists. You could have a friend from another city book it, or add a “romantic getaway” note to the request… but still Brian Chesky is making it harder for people to simply have a good time. Meaning, while Halloween used to be the one night where Airbnb leaned into its roots (think: house full of strangers, too loud, too human)... now, it’s just another weekend on prohibition. Booo. Until next time, friends…
