Zuck Enters Full MAGA Mode as Meta Hires a Trump Certified Fixer for the AI Arms Race

“He can’t keep getting away with this!” -me watching Zuck recalibrate his moral compass every inauguration

Remember when Zuck was on Rogan’s podcast and he told Rogan he was a big bowhunter, and then Rogan proceeded to ask him what type of bow he uses and Zuck immediately channeled his inner Mitch McConnell on the Senate floor? Because it seems like every move he makes is a pure political move that lacks any authenticity whatsoever?

Welcome to his latest move… where Zuck announced to the world he’s officially hiring Dina Powell McCormick as Meta’s President and Vice Chairman.

For those keeping score at home, Powell McCormick spent 16 years at Goldman Sachs, served as Deputy National Security Adviser to Donald Trump, worked under George W. Bush, and generally operates at the intersection of money, power, and people who never wait in line (or at least not the same line as you).

Trump immediately hopped on Truth Social to congratulate her like he personally drafted the offer letter (he probably helped). Strength. Distinction. Fantastic. Talented. Mark Z!!! You know… the full endorsement package. (Nevermind this is the same guy who kicked you off social media and could’ve lost you the 2020 election, but go on). Apparently, nothing heals old wounds quite like $70 billion in upcoming AI infrastructure spend.

Zuckerberg has been pretty upfront about the goal lately. He wants to build massive AI infrastructure, lock down energy capacity, and make sure Washington doesn’t get in the way while it happens. And what do you know? Hiring Powell McCormick is exactly how he plans to do that.

Meta says she’ll help guide overall strategy, execution, and expand long-term investment capacity. Translation: help us raise capital, grease partnerships, and keep Donnie Politics in our back pocket.

And yes, this role looks a lot like a rebooted Sheryl Sandberg-era playbook… except flipped politically. Where Sandberg leaned deep into Democratic relationships to fend off scrutiny, Powell McCormick brings elite finance chops and global political ties that play much nicer with the current White House family.

If this feels sudden, it’s only because you haven’t been watching closely. Meta has been on a slow-motion realignment tour for months. Fact-checking disappeared. DEI quietly exited stage left. Trump-era advisors started running key functions. And the whole “Silicon Valley values” thing went from mission-critical to nice-to-have, if convenient.

If you squint, it almost looks like Meta decided: we’re done apologizing… we’re building.

The context that really matters here is Meta’s balance sheet. With plans to spend up to $72 billion on capital expenditures next year, the company is clearly positioning itself for an extended AI arms race. That money is going toward data centers, power agreements, and the kind of compute scale that doesn’t come cheaply or quietly.

Also, after the Llama 4 disaster… Meta needs to get this thing back on track.

Zuckerberg basically said as much in the company statement: Powell McCormick’s mix of finance, diplomacy, and global relationships makes her “uniquely suited” for Meta’s next phase. Translation: this phase is expensive, political, and very serious.

So yeah, don’t think Meta hired a president… it hired a fixer with direct connections to Donnie Politics. If you’re shorting Meta now, you’re either dumb or have balls of steel.
