Stellantis Announces Series of Safety Recalls Involving Over 291,000 Chrysler Vehicles

Stellantis N.V. (NYSE: STLA) has announced a series of recalls covering more than 2.5 million vehicles in the United States following safety concerns identified through investigations with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recalls span several brands under the Stellantis portfolio, including Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, and involve issues ranging from electrical circuit overheating to airbag malfunctions and rollaway risks.

The largest recall involves over 291,000 Chrysler vehicles due to a potential overheating issue in the radiator fan’s electrical circuit, which could pose a fire hazard. Chrysler also recalled more than 250,000 Pacifica and Voyager minivans from model years 2022 through 2025 after determining that some side curtain airbags may not retain sufficient pressure during deployment, increasing the risk of injury. In addition, approximately 285,000 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid models from 2017 through 2024 were recalled because the hybrid system could fail, leading to a loss of propulsion power while driving.

Jeep vehicles were affected by multiple recalls as well. Certain Jeep Cherokee (2019–2024) and Jeep Compass (2018–2024) models were recalled after it was found that their airbag systems may not deploy properly during a collision. More than 163,000 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs from model years 2022 through 2025 are being recalled because door trim pieces on the driver and passenger sides may detach while the vehicle is in motion, posing a potential road hazard. In a separate recall, 2018–2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango models were found to have a malfunctioning antilock brake system module that could cause unintended brake light activation and disable the ABS and stability control systems, raising the risk of a crash.

Stellantis also announced the recall of nearly 300,000 Dodge Dart vehicles from model years 2013 through 2016 due to a faulty shifter cable that may detach from the transmission, potentially allowing the vehicle to roll away when parked. Another recall covers more than 284,000 Dodge Charger (2018–2021) and Chrysler 300 models because the side curtain airbag inflators could rupture during deployment, possibly sending metal fragments into the cabin.

Finally, the company issued a recall for approximately 1.2 million Ram 1500 trucks produced between 2019 and 2024 to address a software malfunction that could disable the electronic stability control system.

In a statement, Stellantis said it is working closely with the NHTSA to contact affected owners and arrange free repairs through its authorized dealer network. Owners will receive notifications by mail and may verify whether their vehicles are included in the recalls by entering their Vehicle Identification Number on the NHTSA recall website or at www.chrysler.com/recalls. “Customer safety remains our top priority,” the company said. “We are taking immediate steps to ensure all affected vehicles are inspected and repaired promptly.”The recalls add to a growing list of safety campaigns across Stellantis’ brands in recent years, as automakers continue to address electrical, mechanical, and software issues in increasingly complex vehicle systems.
