Nvidia Going Big on Potential $3B Splurge on Top Israeli Startup (Cash Checks Snap Necks)

Jensen can’t keep getting away with this…

If you were wondering what Jensen Huang does with $4 trillion worth of market cap energy, the answer appears to be: walk around Israel with a shopping basket and start pointing at PhDs. According to reports, the house that Obi-Huang-Kenobi built is in advanced talks to buy AI21 Labs for somewhere between $2B and $3B… which, in Nvidia math, is basically nothing.

Y tho?

Well, AI21 isn’t some random “we slapped GPT on a landing page” startup. These guys actually build large language models. Like… from scratch. Math. Research papers. People who argue about tokens at dinner. The kind of talent pool Nvidia can’t just hire off LinkedIn with a ping and a phantom wallet. And that’s the tell, because Nvidia doesn’t really need another model. What it needs is people who know how to break them, optimize them, and make them scream on Nvidia silicon. Translation: Nvidia is backing up the brinks truck for 200 extremely annoying geniuses with rare AI expertise… a.k.a., the kind that Google, Meta, and OpenAI have w*t dreams about.

As for the valuation, AI21 was last valued at $1.4B in 2023. So Nvidia is clearly looking to pay a fat premium with no f*cks given. Also worth noting: AI21’s founder is Amnon Shashua, who also happens to run Mobileye. Yes, that Mobileye. Israel doesn’t really do “mid” when it comes to tech founders. Meanwhile, Nvidia is planning a massive R&D campus in Israel… up to 10,000 employees, 160,000 square meters, parks, common areas, the whole “AI summer camp but with missile defense energy” starter pack.

Additionally, this also explains why Nvidia keeps winning the AI arms race without launching flashy consumer products. It’s all about owning the plumbing, the brains, and the choke points. That said, AI21 reportedly wasn’t even shopping itself aggressively… and yet, Nvidia came knocking. That’s usually how the biggest deals happen: not auctions, just a quiet “how much would it take?” conversation that ends with a comma and nine zeros.

Meaning, if Nvidia closes this… it’s just another reminder that the most valuable company on Earth is still acting like it’s early, still hoarding talent, still building moats, still playing offense. The end. Until next time, friends…
